Description

Founded in 1897, James Grant built Glen Grant Number 2 across the road from the Glen Grant Distillery which he co-founded with his brother John in 1840. This came after there was a massive spike in demand for whisky. In 1902, Glen Grant No.2 ceased distillation until 1965 when it was reopened to help the supply demand of Glen Grant. The Distillery was renamed Caperdonich in 1977, meaning ‘secret well” after the well from which it draws its water. Pernod Ricard bought the distillery in 2001, however, the distillery was closed again in 2002. The site was bought by Forsyth’s coppersmiths, which was demolished shortly after in 2011. One pair of stills was bought by the Belgian Owl distillery, with the others intending to be installed at the new Falkirk Distillery.

This 36 year old was distilled in November 1972 and was left to mature in oak cask #7418. One of only 126 bottles which were bottled in June 2009 at 50.6% ABV.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
