Description

The Macallan Archival Series commemorates the iconic Macallan advertising campaigns of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. With the first release being in 2015, this series is comprised of 24 individual releases.

This lot includes the following 70cl bottlings:

Folio 1: The first edition from The Macallan Archival Series.  This 2015 distillery exclusive release is presented in a beautiful book-shaped tin.  It was limited to less than 2000 bottles of 12-year-old single malt with an ABV of 43%.  It comes with a hardback book that presents 80's Macallan advertisement pictures along with a USB stick of the Macallan advertising archive. Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 2:  The second edition from The Macallan Archival Series.  This distillery-exclusive bottle was released in 2017 and was limited to 2000 bottles. This 12-year-old single malt had been matured in sherry casks and bottled at 43% ABV.  Presented in a book-shaped tin case and comes with a hardback book which revisits The Macallan's original print, press & film advertising campaign from 1980-1994.  The front image is a watercolour painted by artist Sara Midd. Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 3: The third expression in the Archival Series from The Macallan, this distillery exclusive bottling was released in 2018, and limited to just 2,000 bottles. The bottle and book-shaped presentation tin showcase a campaign that celebrated the idea that whisky is best made in cold weather, with two people playing on the snow-covered slopes of Ben Rinnes. Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 4: The fourth edition in the Archival Series from The Macallan.  Folio 4 remembers the legendary advertising campaigns of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s that brought The Macallan to the public’s attention outside of Scotland. It is presented in a beautiful book-shaped, tin case.  It features an advertisement including a Strathspey composed by James Scott Skinner (1843-1927).  The advert notes that Skinner was so moved by his favourite malt he created a unique piece of music featuring his signature lilting notes with the simple catchphrase: “The Macallan. The Malt.”  Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 5: The fifth release from the highly collectable Macallan Archival Series, an iconic series that celebrates the classic advertising campaigns of the 1970s, 80s and 90s.The Macallan Folio 5 pays homage to an advert featuring the tale of a “Luggy Bonnet” with the words “Keep this knot firmly tied”.The sketched image recollects a scene of acquaintances at the end of a day on Speyside when one sportsman talks of a so-called “disaster”, missing the opportunity of a dram of The Macallan from the "Laird" as a result of his hat covering his ears! Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 6: The sixth release from the highly collectable Macallan Archival Series, an iconic series that celebrates the classic advertising campaigns of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Folio 6 celebrates a charmingly witty advert that "cleverly featured ‘The Chairman’ as a Scotsman dancing the Highland fling over a pen and brush, the symbols of the advertising team of Holmes and Salaman." At the time, The Macallan Chairman was Allan Shiach - the resulting campaign remains one of the brand’s most memorable, and to many, the most amusing! Bottled at 43% ABV, 70cl.

Folio 7 is the seventh release in The Macallan Archival Series. This explores the legendary advertising campaign from 1986, ‘The Boffins Baffled’. This particular campaign tells the story of the time when The Macallan directors invited a party of scientists to try to unravel why The Macallan was so special. These scientists were left completely baffled as no scientific rationale could explain the so-called magic which took place in the sherry-seasoned oak casks. The Boffins, therefore, insisted on taking some extra whisky back to the laboratory for ‘research’.
