Description

The Coleburn Distillery in Elgin was more famous for its experimental work rather than its single malt. Coleburn began producing malt whisky in 1899 using its two copper pot stills which were installed two years prior. Sadly, the famous whisky loch of the 80s saw the closure of several distilleries, including Coleburn. Coleburn’s license was revoked in 1992 and Diageo submitted proposals for the distillery’s buildings to be converted into flats and houses, however, these were later withdrawn. In the new decade, there were plans for the distillery to be turned into an entertainment venue by brothers Dale and Mark Winchester. Whilst plans are still in place to build a hotel, spa or even a boutique distillery, the warehouses were leased to Aceo, the owner of the independent bottler Murray McDavid to mature its stocks and use as the company headquarters.

This Old and Rare release from Douglas Laing is from Coleburn distillery. Distilled in 1967 and bottled 34 years later from a single cask. There was only 287 bottles released.
