Description

This Speyside distillery was founded by John Duff & Co in 1897, and shortly after its opening, it was closed in 1899. During this time, Benriach’s large malting facility was being used to its advantage by supplying Longmorn with its requirements.

Later on, in the 20th century, the distillery was reopened by Glenlivet Distillers, which had bought Benriach in 1965 until Seagram took over the operations of the distillery in 1978. For the first time, Seagram began production runs of a peated Benriach dram and just towards the mid-90s, Benriach had become their own brand with a 10-year-old bottling just before the mothballing of the distillery in 1998. Nevertheless, Intra Trading, alongside Billy Walker, acquired Benriach and resumed production and by the early 2000s, The Benriach Company took possession of both Glendronach and Glenglassaugh Distilleries.

Now, since 2016, US drinks producer Brown-Forman has Benriach Distillery as well as BenRiach Distillery Company. Benriach is so special because it is one of only 7 distilleries, that utilise its own in-house floor maltings.

This single cask was distilled in 1991 and matured in a hogshead before being bottled at 48.3% in 2023 by Berry Bro's & Rudd. One of 254 bottles.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
