Description

Aquevit is defined as neutral spirit flavored with caraway or dill. According to EU regulations, the alcohol strength must be at least 37.5% vol. The spirit used in Norwegian aquevit is made from potatoes. Swedish and Danish aquavit are made from grain alcohol.

Akevitt is considered the national spirit both in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Nevertheless, it is only in Denmark that aquevit is the type of spirit that is produced the most. And it is only in Norway that we barrel age the akevitten in the same way as they do for cognac and whisky.

Long tradition and the fact that aquavit is only made in limited quantities outside of Scandinavia are probably the most important reasons why the drink is referred to as our most famous. Today, the various Norwegian aquavits are still produced by Arcus AS according to old recipes that were taken over from the private distilleries in the years after Vinmonopolet was established in 1922.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
