Description

Located in the city of Chichibu, in Japan’s Saitama Prefecture, the Chichibu Distillery was founded in 2004 by Ichiro Akuto, with operations starting in 2008. This distillery was the first new Japanese distillery since the 70s. Ichiro was born into a family with a long brewing history. As far back as 1625, they had started brewing sake in Chichibu. The natural environment and quality of the water make it the perfect place for a distillery. Unfortunately, Chichibu is not open to the public, however, offers individual tours for professionals.

This single malt was distilled in 2015 and matured in a Chichibu Wine Koshu ex Chardonnay cask #12509 prior to bottling in 2022.

It was bottled at a strength of 62.3% ABV and is one of only 271 bottles produced for Whisky Magazine's Japanese Craft Whisky collection.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
