Description
Abhainn Dearg, meaning Red River in Scottish Gaelic, was founded in 2008 by Marko Tayburn at the Red River on the western coast of the Isle of Lewis. This distillery is officially the most remote whisky distillery in Scotland producing both unpeated and peated spirits with its first release being a limited edition 3-year-old - Spirit of Lewis. The first single malt came in 2011, launching at the Royal National Mod, also known as the ‘Whisky Olympics’. Being a new distillery, the first 10-year-old single malt was only released in December 2018 however, this at the time, was the oldest whisky to be produced by a legal distillery in the Outer Hebrides.
This single cask bottling is from cask #032010 of Abhainn Dearg as the Spirit of Lewis. Distilled on the 10th of February 2010 and one of only 1000 bottles.
