Description

Arran distillery located in Lochranza was founded by Harold Currie in 1994 who was white the man. He was a former director of Chivas and a D-Day veteran. The distillery building plans were scuppered or hampered if you will by a pair of golden eagles and because of their status as a protected species, construction was temporarily halted.  Previous experience of distilling on the island would have been rife with word of around 50 distilleries being present at one time, however, none of these were actually official. The most recent and well know prior to Lochranze was called Lagg and sadly closed in 1837. Arran used to store their casks in a warehouse down in Campbeltown at Springbank. However, the legal implications behind this were passed and the distillery at one point offered individuals an opportunity to own their own cask of whisky, which can be stored on-site at the distillery.

This is the distillery's second 25-year-old expression. Distilled in 1998 and aged in a single cask #1998/556 before being bottled in October 2023 at 48.1% ABV.  This is one of only 185 bottles released exclusively for the UK market.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
