Description
The South Pole, South Georgia, and the North Pole and Greenland. For generations, these wild and unforgiving lands of snow and ice have quickened the heart and held a magnetic pull for explorers like Craig Mathieson. Named the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's first 'Explorer in Residence' in 129 years, he is described as Scotland's greatest living explorer.
In 2009, Mathieson journeyed by sea kayak for a month in eastern Greenland. In the bracing Arctic air, peril and natural wonder were his constant companion. Towering icebergs heaved and cracked while solitary polar bears prowled the shoreline. By night, he was bathed in the mesmerising Northern Lights.
Inspired by Mathieson's journeys, the Polar Explorer is made from a carefully selected cask of whisky which was expertly distilled on Islay. To ensure the perfect balance of this spirit, pure iceberg water drawn by Mathieson from the Sermilik Fjord in eastern Greenland was added.

Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
