Description

The Mackie family began to blend whisky during the mid-1880s, with Lagavulin at its heart, and Peter Mackie registered the ‘White Horse’ brand in 1891, a year after Mackie & Co (Distillers) was established. After his stint at the Islay Distilleries, Sir Peter Mackie constructed a small distillery within the Lagavulin grounds, poaching Laphroaig staff to run it for him and firing the stills using only peat, this was Malt Mill.

This Mackie's Ancient Brand of whisky is a genuine product of Scotland and can be regarded as a real Connoisseur's Blend. Special care is given to the maintenance of the fine flavour and mellow bouquet. This outstanding product of the Blenders art was blended and supplied by White Horse Distillers.

The majority of the whisky produced at Malt Mill was used for this blend. It was distilled, blended and bottled in Scotland before being imported to the US by Browne Vintners Company Inc, New York City, New York. The import strip and spring cap indicate that this bottling is from the 1940s, Malt Mill was closed years later in 1962.
