Description
Laphroaig is a substantial distillery with 7 stills and a capacity of over 3 million litres per year! The distillery was built in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston, the distillery remained under D. Johnston & Co until the 1960s. In the 20th century, the distillery saw a rise to fame when Donald's great-grandson Ian Hunter took over. When Ian died, he left the distillery to his secretary, Bessie Williamson who had been the acting manager during Ian's extensive international sales trips. Bessie retired in 1972 and the distillery was granted a Royal Warrant in 1994 from HRH The Prince of Wales at the time. This was also the year that Friends of Laphroaig was founded, which to this day has around 640,000 members.
Cairdeas, Gaelic for 'friendship', is an annual bottle release by Laphroaig for their Friends of Laphroaig members.
This 2012 bottling combines some of the original liquid used to create càideas, further matured and complemented with newer Laphroaig spirit that has been fully matured in quarter casks.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
