Description

Celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024, Macallan is among the most iconic distilleries in the world and has produced some of the most sought-after whiskies for collectors. Its rich character and long-standing relationship with Spain's sherry producers have helped build a reputation for exceptional malt whiskies, both in its core expressions and rarest releases.

Located on an estate in the Scottish Highlands on the banks of the River Spey, The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid. It was one of the first Scottish distilleries to be legally licensed. Using water from springs beneath its estate, The Macallan makes single malt whiskies using the smallest commercial stills in Speyside. Their unique size and shape give the spirit maximum contact with the copper, helping to concentrate the new-make spirit with rich, fruity, full-bodied flavours.

This is an 81-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, drawn from a single sherry-seasoned cask laid down in 1940. Released in February 2022, The Reach is the oldest whisky released by Macallan, this extraordinarily rare single malt whisky celebrates the artisanship it took to craft it.

The Reach is presented in unique packaging brought together by a collective of skilled artisans. Encapsulating the theme of collaboration, each detail has been meticulously thought through and represents the work of many hands that brought this whisky to life. Sculptor Saskia Robinson created three hands to cradle the mouth-blown glass decanter, indented with subtle fingerprints that match the hands holding it. The decanter and sculptor are housed in a well-crafted cabinet made with wood from a fallen elm tree. This tree is thought to have been on the Macallan Estate in 1940. A beautifully presented book which details the release is also included.

This is one of only 288 decanters that have been produced.
