Description

The Hearach is the first, historic single maly from The Isle of Harris, a small outer Hebridean Island sat proudly off the far north-western edge of Scotland.

The word Hearach means a native of Harris in Scots Gaelic. It is the first legal dram from the Isle of Harris, as they revive the traditions of distilling lost when the illicit whisky-makers of nearby Pabbay were cleared from their homes in 1846.

It is made from a combination of whisky spirit drawn from American oak first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and European oak ex-oloroso and ex-fino butts.

All spirits in the recipe have been cask-matured across the ever-changing seasons in the coastal village of Ardhasaig, before being married to bring additional harmony prior to bottling on the Island.

The Hearach is released in batches of around 13,000 bottles, each vatting of casks being married in oak following maturation.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
