Description

‘Long’ John Macdonald first licenced Ben Nevis Distillery in 1825, near the UK’s largest mountain in Fort William. Towards the end of the 19th century, blended Scotch was becoming quite the thing and Long John’s Dew of Ben Nevis was a successful brand at this time. Brewer’s yeast is used, which makes Ben Nevis the last distillery in Scotland to use this old method of inducing fermentation. During its time, the distillery closed more than once. Production ceased in 1978 before being resumed in 1981 when Long John Distillers (Whitbread) purchased the distillery.

Just two years after a £2 million refurbishment, Ben Nevis closed again. In 1989 Nikka Whisky Distilling Company purchased Ben Nevis and reopened a year later, with a new visitors centre that came in later 1991. This was a new start for the distillery, with a new portfolio released including a 10-year-old single malt.

This single malt was distilled in 2012 and bottled 10 Years later in 2022. There were 5 casks in this parcel #10.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
