Description

Celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024, Macallan is among the most iconic distilleries in the world and has produced some of the most sought-after whiskies for collectors. Its rich character and long-standing relationship with Spain's sherry producers have helped build a reputation for exceptional malt whiskies, both in its core expressions and rarest releases. Located on an estate in the Scottish Highlands on the banks of the River Spey, The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid. It was one of the first Scottish distilleries to be legally licensed. Using water from springs beneath its estate, The Macallan makes single malt whiskies using the smallest commercial stills in Speyside. Their unique size and shape give the spirit maximum contact with the copper, helping to concentrate the new-make spirit with rich, fruity, full-bodied flavours. The name ‘Macallan’ is derived from the Gaelic word ‘magh’, which means ‘a fertile land’, and ‘Ellan’ that honours St.Fillan’, a monk who spread Christianity in Scotland during the 18th century.

Arguably the most famous independent bottler of Scotch whisky there is. Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail. It is now owned by the Urquhart Family who have bow bottled over 350 different expressions from around 69 different distilleries. Gordon & MacPhail is the Trading name of Speymalt Whiskies while also owning the Benromach distillery, which they purchased in 1993. Some of the brands include Connoisseurs Choice, Cask Strength, Rare Old and Speymalt.
