Description

The distillery originated back in 1839 and was founded by entrepreneur Alexander Matheson. He eventually sold the distillery to Andrew and Charles Mackenzie after they came forward looking to purchase. They introduced the iconic 12-pointed Royal Stag emblem, the Caberfeidh, which has adorned every bottle of The Dalmore. Now one of the most prestige single malts in the market, it is owned by Whyte & Mackay. At the time, Whyte & Mackay predominantly dealt in blended whiskies and made a move to purchase the already successful Dalmore from the Mackenzie family in 1960. At the time of purchase, W&M required large bulk volumes to meet the market demand for their blends. This in turn meant Dalmore never really released an older expression than a 12-year-old. Dalmore now stands on its own and is most certainly considered one of the most luxurious brands in the single malt whisky market with global recognition.

This 1981 Dalmore was distilled on the 24th of November 1981 and matured in bourbon barrels for 22 years prior to being finished in Matusalem sherry casks.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
