Description

John and Helen Cumming started producing illicit whisky in 1811 on their farm, Cardow, in the Speyside region. They obtained a licence in 1823, being one of the first distilleries in history to have this. With the ownership passing through the family throughout the years, John Cumming’s daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, took over the distillery in 1872. Elizabeth rebuilt Cardhu nearby to its original location in 1884 just before it was sold to John Walker & Sons in 1893. Cardhu’s capacity was increased in 1960, bringing their total number of stills to 6 shortly before John and Helen’s great-grandson became the chairman of DCL. Following a short stint of producing vatted malt to ease stock constraints, Cardhu 12-Year-Old Single Malt was launched in 2005.

Released in 2013 as part of Diageo's super premium this 21 year old was distilled at Cardhu.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
