Description

The building of Benromach Distillery in Forres, Morayshire, started after The Benromach Distillery Company was founded by Duncan McCallum and F.W. Brickman in 1898. With the distillery first opening in 1900, it was closed twice within a decade. Not opening again until after WWI, Benromach became silent once again for a further 5 years. Joseph Hobbs bought the distillery before handing it to the National Distillers of America in 1938. In the early 50s, DCL took ownership of Benromach, keeping the distillery open for 30 years. Refurbishments were carried out until yet again, Benromach was mothballed in 1983. The distillery was bought by Gordon & MacPhail, which brought Benromach a visitors centre at the site towards the end of the century. Their first whisky was released in 2009, a 10-year-old.

Distilled in 2012, this limited release from Benromach distillery has matured in kiln-dried virgin oak casks for 10 years. Bottled in 2023, this is one of two limited edition releases under the 'Contrasts' series

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
