Description

The Balvenie Distillery is a large distillery located in Speyside, neighbouring Glenfiddich and Kininvie. The distillery was built by William Grant in 1892 shortly before production began just a year later. Capacity at Balvenie was doubled in 1957 meaning the addition of two stills was much needed. A further two were later added, to make a total of 8 stills in 1965 to keep up with the increase in production capacity. With the launch of their Doublewood single malt in 1993, Balvenie became one of the first distilleries to have their single malt be put through a second maturation in a different cask (known as finishing). Balvenie is now operating 9 short-neck stills and is one of the fastest-growing brands in the single malt industry.

This bottling is a follow-on from the very popular Tun 1401 series by The Balvenie Distillery, which had 9 batches.

Due to the success of Tun 1401, Balvenie used a bigger tun - Tun 1509 could hold four times as much liquid.  Seven European oak Sherry butts and thirty-five American oak barrels were used and were married together for several months each.  This bottle also comes with a diagram that details the main tasting characteristics of each of these 43 casks.

This is the 7th release of Balvenie's Tun 1509 single malt Scotch whisky.

Prior to any bid being placed on a lot, close up visual inspection is to be carried out. If you are unsure in any way about the condition of the said lot, click “ask a question” above. More in-depth descriptions and additional photos can be taken upon request. Otherwise, lots are sold as seen in the pictures. The bidder understands that once you have bid, you are stating you understand this and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

TGWA may try to highlight conditions of interest of lots being sold in the auction. The majority of the items being sold are of second-hand nature and TGWA cannot be held responsible for any conditions that may not have been specified when listing the lots on the site. Thus, the bidder fully understands, prior to confirming a bid they are happy with the condition of the lot, whether it has conditions noted or otherwise.

Should there be a discrepancy between the photo and the lot title/description, the photograph holds the precedent. No claim can be lodged against a misdescribed item as all lots are sold as seen.

Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, the condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit. Loss and breakage cover is available at 3% of the hammer price as standard. If the lot is not insured, no claim can be lodged against the courier or The Grand Whisky Auction for breakage or loss in transit.
