Description

Glenmorangie is Gaelic Gleann Mòr na Sìth ""vale of tranquillity"" or Gleann Mór-innse ""vale of big meadows"" and is located in Tain, Scotland. The distillery is owned by The Glenmorangie Company which is a subsidiary of Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. There is another world-acclaimed distillery under this umbrella…Ardbeg of course. Glenmorangie's most famous characteristic is that it boasts the tallest stills in Scotland. Why is this important? Well at 8m tall and a neck of 5.13m, these are the secret to producing an extremely light and delicate taste. You can’t mention the distillery without having to pay tribute to the “The Sixteen Men of Tain”, who worked tirelessly, in the early years for the distillery to be such a success.

The Glenmorangie Private Edition celebrates the innovation for which the Distillery is revered. Marrying skill with the vision, the series features unique single malts that deserve to be shared with a select audience of Scotch whisky enthusiasts. As individual as they are rare, these experimental releases will captivate the single malt collector.

Sonnalta

This was the first in the prestigious 'Private Editon' bottlings by Glenmorangie Distillery. After 10 years maturing in American white oak casks this whisky was transferred into Spanish ex-Pedro Ximenez (PX) casks for its final two years of extra-maturation. Carefully selected, limited edition whiskies were chosen from the 'cabinet of curiosities' of Dr Bill Lumsden, head of the Glenmorangie Whisky Creation Team.

Finealta

Finealta is the second in Glenmorangie's series of Private Editions (following Sonnalta). Finealta was produced using some lightly peated barley. The name is Gaelic for 'Elegance' and it was matured in ex-sherry & plain new American oak casks.

Artein

The Highland distillery Glenmorangie produced this 15 Year Old into a series in 2011. It is "stone" in Gaelic and has been named due to its origin being rocky in nature. Super Tuscan Wine Casks were used in this expression.

Ealanta

This single malt was released by Glenmorangie in 2013 as part of their prestigious  Private Edition range - this was the 4th release in the series. Bottled in 2012 and distilled in 1993 the Ealanta was matured fully in virgin American white oak casks. These casks were special due to their heavily charred oak which came from a forest in Missouri. This is how it largely differs from its predecessors as it has been full-term matured as opposed to just finished in 'designer' casks.

Companta

'Companta' by Glenmorangie, follows on from 'Ealanta', which was named as World Whisky of the Year 2014 by Jim Murray. 'This Private Edition Companta was a very popular release, selling out quickly from most retailers. After first maturing in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, the Companta was matured in 60% Burgundy wine casks from Clos de Tart and 40% Rhône Valley casks that previously held Rasteau, sourced by Glenmorangie's Director of Distilling, Dr. Bill Lumsden. The result is an exceedingly well-made cherry red, non-chill-filtered single malt that fits perfectly into the continuing range of experimental releases from Glenmorangie.

Tusail

Tusail is the sixth entry in Glenmorangie's Private Collection. Made using traditionally floor-malted Maris Otter barley, this is an old-fashioned whisky backed up by Glenmorangie's modern approach to whisky-making.

Milsean

Milsean was the seventh release in Glenmorangie's Private Edition series. It was finished in two-and-a-half years in 154 toasted ex-Portuguese-red-wine barriques. This highland malt is sweet with notes of tropical fruit and lemon sherbet, backed up with some ginger spice. 'Milsean' is Gaelic for 'sweet things.'

Bacalta

Glenmorangie Bacalta is s a single malt that is the eight release from the Private Edition collection. Matured in ex-bourbon casks and extra matured in former malmsey maderia wine casks.

Spios

Reading Spice in Gaelic, this single malt from Glenmorangie is named Spios and is the ninth release in the award-winning Private Editions series. It has been fully matured in American rye whiskey casks.

Allta

Glenmorangie have released Allta as 10th release as part of the Private Edition. Allta has been created with their own wild yeast.
