Description

Macallan's Six Pillars - The Six Pillars embody all that is unique to The Macallan. Collectively they underpin the exceptional craftsmanship, renowned quality and rich character of their single malt whisky.

  • Estate: The Macallan Estate, whose origins date back to 1543, is situated in the heart of the Speyside region of Scotland.
  • Curiously Small Stills: During distillation, the distinct size and shape of their Curiously Small Spirit Stills contribute a rich and fruity character to their new make spirit.
  • Exceptional Oak Casks: Worthy of their name, their Exceptional Oak Casks are the single greatest contributor to the outstanding quality and distinctive aromas and flavours of The Macallan.
  • Sherry Seasoned: The Macallan maintains its tradition of maturing whisky in oak casks seasoned with sherry wine in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
  • Natural Colour: From the lightest gold to the deepest mahogany, the colours of The Macallan whiskies are 100% natural.
  • Mastery: Heritage, craftsmanship and creativity. An uncompromising commitment to excellence. Their people and their mastery define The Macallan.

The Macallan Gran Reserva has bathed deeply in the most sultry of Macallan's Sherry casks. These casks were set aside from all others, filled with The Macallan spirit and judiciously nosed over the years by the Distillery Management.

Having slumbered for 18 years at Easter Elchies, The Macallan Gran Reserva now reveals itself as a malt steeped in the pedigree of The Macallan. From the initial gathering of water at their private source to the shipping of casks, each moment, each costly selection of the best is to be found in The Macallan Gran Reserva.

This was distilled in 1980 and bottled at a strength of 40% ABV in 1999.
